Wettone Matthews can be traced back some 50 years to an accountant who practised from an office in Market Street. This firm was taken over in the 1970s and moved to Westbrooke House in Alton's High Street where Tim Wettone joined the firm in 1980. He was joined in 1985 by two partners, one of whom was Barbara Matthews and at the same time the firm acquired another practice with offices in Haslemere and Bordon.

The firm was renamed Wettone Matthews in 1991 and remained at Westbrooke House until 2010. By this time, it had become a limited company and moved into its current office at Market House in Lenten Street, which leads on from Market Street where it all started 50 years ago.

It offers a complete range of accountancy services to businesses of all sizes, charities and individuals. Director Paul Susans says, “Our client base is expanding rapidly, all primarily through recommendations. Roughly 60% of our client base is within a 10-mile radius.”

On working in East Hampshire, Director Phil Du Gay says, “We think that East Hampshire is a great place to work because it has a really good base for small businesses in particular.”

“It has excellent transport links and it’s got an energetic and innovative number of businesses locally.”

On Charities, Paul Susans says, “Our ethos is to support local charities and we have previously worked with the Hospice Movement: Naomi House & St. Michaels.”

Wettone Matthews opened a second office at BASE innovation centre, Bordon, in May this year to provide a more convenient service for clients in the area. The new office is starting to produce its own clients and Paul Susans says “Looking ahead we hope to establish the practice and replicate the success we have had in Alton.”
